The Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) is a non-profit trade association federation that encompasses 53 educational campuses and local chapters across the United States. With over 3,600 member businesses, IEC employs over 100,000 electrical and systems workers, providing nearly 16,000 electricians and systems professionals with world-class training programs each year.
Our mission at IEC is to advance and promote the success of our merit shop members and the independent electrical and systems contracting industry. Upheld by the principles of integrity, excellence, and collaboration, we strive to advocate for the independent electrical industry in the U.S., offer top-notch education and resources, increase our resources and membership to maintain a dynamic industry association, and acknowledge excellence in the electrical and systems contracting industry.

Founded in 1957, the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) is a national trade association for merit shop electrical contractors. IEC has 52 chapters across the country which represent over 4,000 member companies and trains over 14,000 apprentices each year. Its mission is to develop and foster a stronger economy through the level of quality and services its members provide to the industry.

Get paid while you learn. You’ll get on-the-job training with an IEC contractor during the day and attend classroom and hands-on instruction in the evening.

The IEC Apprenticeship Curriculum is recognized as one of the best teaching tools for electrical apprentices in the nation.

IEC’s program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship, making it an approved program with nationwide credentials.

When you finish your four-year training program, you’ll qualify for 46 college credits through the American Council on Education, making a college degree more affordable in less time.
